Saint Tropez: This Love's On Me - The Lost 1980 Album [Unreleased]
I am very proud to present you with a true rarity here. Disco connoisseurs will of course know Saint Tropez for their gorgeous albums Je t'aime and Belle de Jour with lushly orchestrated tracks such as One More Minute and Fill My Life With Love, both reaching the Top 10 on the Billboard Disco Charts. By the end of 1979, their record label Butterfly Records had signed a deal with MCA Records, but with the popularity of disco declining rapidly in the USA, the deal fell through. In May 1980, a mini-LP had been recorded for a new label, Neo 80, this time not produced by the Rinder & Lewis team, but by former Motown songwriter Jerry Marcellino. This album exists only as a rare promo and was never released commercially. I once had the opportunity to talk to Alfonso J. Cervantes, the founder of Butterfly Records, and he had no recollections of this album or the reasons for it being shelved. Still, Saint Tropez performed the song Tremblin' when visiting Chile in 1981. By 1982, Saint Tropez returned with another stunner of an album on Cervantes' new Destiny label, Hot And Nasty, once again with Rinder & Lewis producing. The same year, This Love's On Me, would be recorded and released by the Ritchie Family for their I'll Do My Best album.
I owe a big thanks to Hans R. De Vries for sending me this rare 12" as an early birthday present. Please note that the picture cover I have provided here, is entirely homemade and features the 1982 line-up of Mona Lisa Young, Phyllis Rhodes, and Lyndie White who were most certainly not associated with this particular production. Phyllis & Lyndie, however, appear in the 1981 performance in Chile which I have included as a bonus here.

Shamed that it wasn't produced by Rinder & Lewis. Didn't heard their name for a long long time and realize that Lewis was W.Michael Lewis who once supporting members of Quicksilver Messenger Service. Wow! He's very unique keyboardist and unique characteristic to me.

Certainly I love The Flirtations' recordings, too. I can't even imagine knowing them in person...in a car, surrounded by those voices coming from the original human source... Wow.
